Add value and beauty to your home with natural hardwood floors. Hardwood is a timeless flooring option that comes in a variety of styles, colors, and plank sizes to choose from. Marett Carpet One Floor & Home with locations in Volant, Pennsylvania and North Jackson, Ohio, is your local hardwood dealer. Wood floors are durable, long-lasting, and hypoallergenic. Although it requires an initial investment, hardwood usually pays for itself over time by increasing your property value. We make finding the perfect hardwood floor for your home easy. We are proud to provide hardwood flooring to the areas of Lawrence County, PA, and Mahoning County, OH.
Hardwood comes in a variety of species, from natural oak to dark, rich mahogany, cherry, hickory, birch, white pine, maple, and more. Different types of wood species will range in color, and even density, water resistance, and hardness. Wood that is naturally hard like solid oak and maple is ideal for a family with an active lifestyle and pets. If you’re interested in an eco-friendly purchase, our experts can show you which products are certified for their sustainability and harvested from responsibly managed forests.
In addition to the species, hardwood planks can be styled in a variety of ways. You can choose unfinished or prefinished hardwood, as well as different floor colors, plank sizes, and gloss levels. For example, you’ll find extra wide planks with beveled edges and weathered textures, along with narrow planks with multi-tonal colors and a smooth gloss finish. We carry everything from modern hardwood trends to traditional looks, so you’re sure to find what you’re looking for when you shop with us.
There are two types of hardwood planks you can choose from: solid or engineered. Both types of hardwood have great features and benefits, but one may be better suited for your home than the other.
Solid Hardwood: Solid hardwood is the original form of hardwood and is comprised of simple, solid wood planks that are typically ¾ inch thick pieces of premium hardwood. Solid hardwood is preferable to some since it can be sanded and refinished multiple times. However, moisture will weaken and warp solid hardwood over time, so it is best reserved for dry, quiet rooms. It cannot be installed below grade.
Engineered Hardwood: Engineered hardwood is the modern incarnation of a timeless classic. Made from up to seven layers of dense hardwood, resins, and plywood, engineered hardwood flooring looks exactly like its solid counterpart but is much more resilient. Engineered hardwood can handle humidity, extreme heat, extreme cold, and some degree of moisture. It can go below grade and won’t readily dent, crack, or warp. Some varieties of engineered hardwood can even be installed without nails or adhesives.
Humidity plays a big role in how hardwood will perform and last in your home. Wood has a natural affinity for moisture – it can draw moisture out of the air like a sponge. This natural tendency can create problems with hardwood flooring, though, particularly if the floors have not been installed properly. Over time, household humidity and even the weather outside can cause your floors to swell and even warp; the key to preventing this unsightly problem begins before your floors are even installed. Hardwood flooring is known for being durable and long-lasting, but it needs to be installed in certain areas of your home to live out its intended lifecycle. For example, solid wood is recommended for on and above-ground rooms like bedrooms, living rooms, and dining rooms. Due to its simple construction, it is not built to handle heavy moisture. Engineered hardwood flooring can be installed in light-moisture kitchens, busy hallways, and even basements thanks to its durable design. Be sure to keep hardwood flooring out of rooms with a lot of humidity and moisture like bathrooms, as this will lead to warping and other issues. If you want this look, we have waterproof hardwood, which has a vinyl sublayer and water-repellent surface.
